Objectives

The MALTA Project aims to introduce the Process Intensification concept for the production of high-added value products for three industrial sectors: Oil & Gas, Health and Food. For that, it will perform the proof of concept of 8 different lab-scale prototypes:

  • Oil & Gas. Development of 2 membrane reactor prototypes:
    • for high-purity hydrogen production
    • for Dimethyl carbonate production (DMC) from CO2
  • Health. Development of 3 prototypes:
    • cultivation of hematopoietic cells
    • cultivation of precursor cells of oligodendrocytes
    • generation of extracellular vesicles
  • Food. Development of 3 prototypes:
    • concentration and purification of hydroalcoholic extracts of polyphenols and glucosinolates
    • cultivation of plant cell suspensions by uniform and constant addition of elicitors
    • cultivation of microalgae by regular and uniform air distribution

Moreover, there will be a dissemination of the results obtained among different stakeholders (i.e. scientific community, industries, ...) and a roadmap will be defined to bring the new technologies to the market.

The MALTA Project structure is subdivided into five main Activities according to the proposed studies for the development of high-added value products in Oil & Gas, Health and Food sectors. The group of partners participating in each Activity is detailed hereafter:
