Basque Center for Macromolecular Design and Engineering-POLYMAT Fundazioa

The Basque Center for Macromolecular Design and Engineering, POLYMAT Fundazioa, ), is a research center of international excellence in polymers whose director is Professor José María Asua. It currently has 114 researchers from 13 different countries, making POLYMAT an international institution.

Its objective is to contribute to the challenges posed by 21st century society: energy, sustainability and health. In particular, it works in the development of polymers in order to respond to these challenges.

The main challenge of BERC POLYMAT is to be able to produce polymers to measure, in other words, to obtain a precise control of the distribution of chemical composition and the architecture of the polymer chains. Therefore, the synthesis of polymers is the core of its activity, where applications in energy, electronics, membranes, polymers dispersed in water and polymers for biomedical applications are investigated. The MALTA project involves the group 'Nanobioseparations' of POLYMAT led by the researcher Ikerbasque Dr. Thomas Schäfer.
